Benefits of Dance

Whether you're coming in for a date night, wedding or just to have some fun, there are so many benefits you can gain from dancing. We've compiled a list of some of the main benefits you can gain from having dance in your life and becoming a better ballroom dancer.

Couple Dancing

Many of our students come in for the social environment associated with dancing. Meeting new people can sometimes be difficult or scary, but luckily Ballroom Dancing is one of the most social sports. At Five Star Dance Studios, meeting new people and making friends is easy because you already have something in common with everyone here...we all love to dance! Meeting new people at our in-studio social events and group classes has never been easier! We have group classes multiple days a week and even have a dance party once a week at both of our locations. Make sure to check our Calendar and Event Pages to look for upcoming scheduled events.

Some students also come in for the physical benefits of dancing. Exercising regularly is hard, but it doesn't have to be! Whether you Waltz, Rumba or Samba your way around the dance floor, you're exercising! Not only does dance improve your natural grace and poise, but we also have students that come to dance as a means of physical therapy. The Department of Health and Human Services recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week for healthy adults and dance definitely qualifies. With an exercise as fun as dance, it's hard to not meet that recommendation! Not to mention that regular physical activity like dance can help improve heart and lung health, control weight, promote better sleep, and improve cognitive brain function!

Improved mental wellbeing is also a huge reason why people dance! Physical activities like Ballroom Dance can help reduce anxiety, depression and negative moods by improving self confidence and cognitive brain function. Dance also helps improve memory, provide stress release, and gives you a sense of accomplishment. Dance can be a means of self-expression that gives you the opportunity to face a tough day or fully enjoy a happy one, both of which can help improve emotional health. Music can also be a major contributor in self expression and an outlet for our emotions. The evolution of music helped stimulate the development of dance, so without music there would be no ballroom dancing. Becoming happier is the perfect reason to start dancing and benefiting from dance can be as easy as...
